PAINTING WITH PASTELS SUPPLY LIST

Students will need the following items for class. Good sources are – www.dickblick.com, www.jerrysartarama.com, www.cheapjoes.com, Amazon

Student Supply List – Painting with Pastels

Shop apron or old shirt to keep your clothes clean
Paper Towels, terry-cloth shop towel, baby wipes (optional)
Kneaded rubber eraser
#2 Pencil
9 X 12 Sketchbook or similar size
Canson Mi-Tientes pastel paper in pad or 2 large sheets in light colors
Small set of Nu Pastels in assorted colors – bring if you have some. I can share mine.
Small cheap bristle brush ½” to 1”
90% rubbing alcohol (70% will work, just takes longer to dry) (not everyone needs to buy it as you can share with a friend)
Drawing board or sheet 3/16” foam board 16X20” or larger (I have cardboard available if needed)
Dry pastels of Medium or Soft hardness (1/2 stick set gives you more colors) PASTELS MUST BE DRY PASTELS – NO OIL PASTELS PLEASE –
Recommended pastel sets – Rembrandt, Unison or Sennelier (Rembrandt 1/2 stick 10 pc. set can be bought for 17.96 from www.jerrysartarama.com) MUNGYO MAKES A DECENT STUDENT SET of 64 pcs. FOR UNDER $20
1 sheet Glassine or clear plastic (newsprint will work also) (available from instructor)
Bulldog Clips – 3-4 medium or large work best
Desktop easel (or floor easel, your preference)
Photographs taken by students themselves that they would like to draw/paint.

OPTIONAL:

Disposable latex gloves (I never use them, just wash hands frequently) (instructor can provide)

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn:

– How to fix mistakes and finish your artwork with confidence
– Framing tips to beautifully display your finished piece

Nancy will guide you through the entire creative process—from planning your composition and simplifying shapes to adding those final finishing touches that make your artwork shine.

Whether you’re picking up a pastel for the first time or looking to build a stronger foundation, you’ll leave with new skills, practical techniques, and the confidence to continue your pastel journey.
