Winnsboro Center for the Arts Participates in East Texas Giving Day

Winnsboro Center for the Arts (WCA) will be fundraising for their annual Winnsboro Festival of Books during East Texas Giving Day from 6 am April 26 to 12 am April 27 at www.easttexasgivingday.org/WCAEarly giving starts at 5 pm April 4. If donors prefer to give in person, they are invited to enjoy coffee and donuts from 8 am – 11 am April 26 at WCA at 200 Market Street, Winnsboro, Texas. All are welcome to a community drum circle from 4 – 5 pm April 26 at 200 Market Street to help cheer WCA on during East Texas Giving Day. Attendees of the drum circle are invited to bring percussion instruments or household items like 10-gallon buckets if they have them.

East Texas Giving Day is an online 18-hour day of giving that provides critical funding for Northeast Texas area nonprofits. The purpose of an area-wide Giving Day is to bring the region together on one day and as one community, raising money and awareness for East Texas nonprofits. This initiative, organized by East Texas Communities Foundation, provides citizens an easy platform to support the mission of local nonprofits that serve the many communities in the region.

There are benefits to giving on East Texas Giving Day. Donors can help their favorite nonprofits win prizes on April 26, celebrate alongside them, and in many cases have their donations matched by generous matching funds.

WCA is a multidisciplinary arts center serving Northeast Texas. Its diverse offerings attract patrons from a sixty-mile radius, and its entertainment series and festivals draw visitors from all around the state.

WCA is experiencing an increasing demand for educational and outreach programs as it emerges from the pandemic. One of its major outreach programs is the Winnsboro Festival of Books which is free and open to the public. This year’s festival will have expanded children’s activities in the morning with storytime, craft activities, and drum circles. Each participating child will receive a free book. While children enjoy the activities, parents will enjoy panel discussions on Children’s Literature and Navigating the Spectrum: Celebrating, Supporting, and Encouraging the gifts in children of all abilities.

Dallas Morning News writer, Michael Granberry, will lead the afternoon session with a keynote address. Panel discussions by authors of Poetry and Mystery will follow to round out the program. Authors from all over the state will showcase their books for sale throughout the day.

The mission of WCA’s Festival is to bring readers and writers together to share in a myriad of adventures that books offer as they expand knowledge and delight all ages. Its vision is to grow literacy and cultivate connections that enrich cultural experiences in Northeast Texas.

Generous donations will help to keep the Festival accessible to all. Funds raised on East Texas Giving Day will go directly to support the 2022 Winnsboro Festival of Books on May 7 at WCA on Market St. in Winnsboro, Texas.
