Franks' title song of his new CD, Silver Dollar, has stayed at #1 on the Roots Music Report Americana Singles Chart for several weeks now. Recent stops on his tour have taken him to Music City Texas Theater in Linden and Uncle Calvins' Coffeehouse in Dallas. His story is a great one and we're excited to have him coming to The Bowery Stage!!
"Frank Martin Gilligan has always loved music and spent time traveling as a country recording artist with his band. He’s been a resident of Tomball since 1986 and returned home for good after his group disbanded in the early 90s. Now after a long break from music, he’s decided to come back and share his world with others.
He first began his entertainment career when he was 19 years old and decided to move to Texas from New York. He along with friends formed the country group Mason Dixon and spent nearly a decade entertaining audiences across the country. Mason Dixon would go on to be signed to Capitol Records where they were able to reach even more success with the backing of the big record label. The time Gilligan spent with Mason Dixon opened him to many opportunities and he also connected with many other country artists such as Vince Gill, and Garth Brooks. The group’s run ended in 1993 and Gilligan returned to Tomball and took a 20 year hiatus from his music to get an everyday job and raise his family.
In 2009, Gilligan was diagnosed with colon cancer which proved to be a trying time in his life. Treatment nearly took away his ability to make music. When he gained his strength back, Gilligan considered this his second chance at continuing music.
“In 2013, at the urging of a friend of mine, I entered the Songwriter’s Serenade Competition in Moravia, Texas and I won it. From there things just kind of snowballed. The next year I entered my song into the Kerrville Folk Festival Songwriting Competition, and I was one of six winners for that. This past year, Wildflower Arts and Music Festival - that’s a songwriting competition that happens in Dallas – I was the overall winner of that.”
Since his success at various competitions, Gilligan rediscovered his love for music. With the help of his friend and producer Joe Gavito, Gilligan recorded a new album, Silver Dollar,” and considers the theme to be mostly Country-Americana style of music.
The title track is currently number one on Americana singles chart and is gaining even more attention as Gilligan performs and makes appearances on local radio shows. Each of the album’s songs has a story and is all very special to Gilligan. He believes listeners will be connected to the songs in some way."
